Imagining the In-between: Influences of Art in a Transitional Care Environment
Hospitalized patients unable to return home may be placed in a transitional care facility while waiting for permanent admission to a nursing home. This move can be disorienting for older people with dementia who find themselves temporarily in an unfamiliar environment. This project represents a collaboration between artists from Emily Carr University and nurses from UBC who together are exploring the possibilities for visual art to serve as a kind of “homing device” for older people with dementia who are living in an “in- between” place.
